date night

last night we headed to the bowling alley...

i forgot how much fun bowling is. (and i of course had to use an orange bowling ball)

half way through our 2nd game they turned down the lights and turned up the music.
it was a party! (and i won both games... woot woot!)

then we headed to yozone for the best frozen yogurt ever!
we shared a coconut and pineapple twist yogurt with strawberries on top.
DELICIOUS!

Katie: Googled, Round 2

Round 1 here. I wanted to see if there would be any changes and... I am bored.

I typed the bolded words in Google and picked my favorite endings:

Katie needs to work on her posture.
Katie looks amazing, even after the deadly mosquito attack.
Katie likes to run around. In cotton panties and a crown. [my favorite]
Katie says she always knew she would marry Tom Cruise.
Katie wants to knit a Giraffe!
Katie does her best Nicole Kidman impression.
Katie hates it when old relatives come up to you at weddings and say "You'll be next, dear". I'm sure they wouldn't be too impressed if I started saying that to them at funerals. [my other favorite]
Katie goes crazy at the lingerie store.
Katie loves the kittens.

and I tag: YOU! Do it with your name... it's pretty entertaining.

getting there... slowly

remember my workout plan??

well, here is an update on my progress...

i started taking "working out" more seriously after the semester ended because i suddenly had TIME to work out. i did alright at first, but i had lots of room for improvement. i would work out 2-3 days a week and still eat whatever was in sight. then we went to san francisco and ate TONS of delicious treats - thank you ghirardelli!-, but we walked a lot too, so while no weight was gained, weight was definitely not lost.

so last week i decided to really take this seriously and start working out 6 days a week. and since last wednesday i actually have worked out everyday (but sunday of course- that beloved day of rest!). and i can tell you... it feels great. i really haven't lost much weight according to the scale, but i feel like i have lost 5 pounds. i have been doing the 30 day shred and no trouble zones dvds (both KILLER workouts), hiking the Y and running back down, and also running 2-ish miles around the neighborhood. i feel healthier and slimmer and i suddenly care more about what i eat, so i am eating healthier, too. [side story: i tried on some capris this morning that i haven't been able to fit into for over 3 years and.... THEY FIT! yay. i didn't even have to squeeze into them, they legitimately fit. i am stoked.]

where i am now:
  • 121 lbs (weighed at night even)
  • 27" waist
i have lost 1-2 pounds and an inch off of my waist. i better keep this up... a trip to the beach is coming up in july.

guess not

i was going to hike the Y today...

but i could hardly find it.

maybe next week...

today is a good day!

look what i made today (while jeremy was busy studying):

it was inspired by this post on my friend's blog.
i almost bought one of the totes, until i figured that i could probably
make it myself... and you know i love craft projects.

here's how YOU can do it:

print out whatever you want to put on the bag (i got mine at michael's), t-shirt, etc.
tape it to the window. tape freezer paper over the original with the waxy
side against the window and trace away to create your stencil.

then cut it out with an exacto knife- make sure you save the centers of the letters.
this part takes the longest. i would suggest going with something simpler if
you aren't completely set on doing words. when you are finally done, iron it onto
your bag. (iron on the centers of the letters, too.)

then the fun part: paint (by dabbing, not brushing) all over your
design and then peel the stencil off of the bag. i used tweezers to get the centers
of the letters off. oh and you don't have to wait for the paint to dry, which is
nice for us over-eager crafters.

and then BAM!!

in less than 2 hours you have a sweet bag that
is sure to brighten someone's day.

at least i hope it will...

our date night

i had high hopes for the night, but it became pretty comical.

we tried a new place for dinner, a thai place. it was a little hole in the wall and neither of us have ever had thai, but we figured it would be close to chinese so we went for it. jeremy ordered something he couldn't pronounce, but the description made the entree out to be beef and veggies in sweet and sour sauce. he was playing it safe (lucky dog). i went with the chicken pineapple curry thinking, "i like curry."

jeremy got his food first and it looked pretty good, although there were WAY too many veggies (for my liking at least). then my curry came out and it was in a bowl with this weird flat spoon thing in it. i was kind of confused. how do i eat this? do i eat it like a soup? so i did eat it like soup. it tasted pretty weird and i ended up just fishing out the chicken with the weird shaped spoon. when i got sick of mine i tasted some of jeremy's food, but the sweet and sour sauce was pretty bland. then i saw that another couple in the restaurant got a bowl like mine and they were putting it on their plates on top of rice. oops! so i started doing the same. but by this time most of the chicken was gone and all i had were veggies and pineapple in a weird sauce, so it wasn't very good. jeremy seemed to be liking his food okay (i was SO jealous). we joked about stopping by a fast food place after, quietly of course. finally we left, less than satisfied... i guess we are not fans of thai food.

after our glorious dinner, we got a redbox movie ("the box"), bought some popcorn and theater candy, and headed home for a movie night. as we were driving home the hubcap to our right front tire rolled off. we heard/saw a hubcap roll away as we were driving through an intersection and then pulled over a little ways down to discover it was our hubcap. jeremy ran back, grabbed it and i drove home with the hubcap in his lap. we sat in the parking lot and tried to get it securely fastened to the wheel, but no luck. we left it out there carefully placed on the wheel and i figured we would deal with it later. jeremy thought he would research it right that second though. so we started the movie with me sitting on the couch eating the popcorn and jeremy sitting on the floor researching hubcaps. how romantic? he eventually joined me on the couch, but not until the popcorn was completely gone (yeah... i ate it ALL. great.)

now let's get to the movie: "the box" have you seen this? well, it is crazy. i thought it was going to be some drama about whether or not to push the button. but it is some sci-fi scary movie. not what we were expecting. at one point, i paused it so i could breathe for a second because it was getting rather creepy- it slightly reminded me of "the ring." at that point jeremy googled the movie so we could find out what happens. after we read almost the entire ending (lame, i know), we started it again. jeremy was distracted from the horror because he kept his computer out and read up on the most recent articles about kobe on espn.com while i tried to be distracted by eating the candy we purchased (milk duds and mini twix bars).

eventually the movie ended and we were both perplexed at the craziness of it all. we both had questions that were left unanswered and pessimistic thoughts about the human race. it was really a weird movie.

and.... then we went to bed.

so there was our amazing date night. what a night?! even though the actual events were less than perfect, the night with jeremy was still fun. we laughed a lot (... at ourselves) and still had a great time.

but here's to a better night tonight... we won't be trying anything new for a while, just our tried and true favorites.

my work space

this is where i spend my days at work:

i'm sure you have all been dying to see where i sit everyday...

okay so maybe only my mom has.
but what do you think? it is pretty spacious and i even have a
comfy chair for any visitors. what could be more inviting? maybe a sign that says "WELCOME" ha! just kidding.

i really like my job and i am liking it more and more everyday.

as i learn more about my job and get more comfortable with it, it gets easier
and less stressful. it's great!

SF Part 6

DAY 7

we didn't have much planned for the day, so we wandered around the city. not much
different then what we did on the other days either. we went shopping and bought souvenirs and had treats from vendors for lunch. wow... our parents would
really be proud of our healthy eating habits for this vacation. haha.

(trish's donuts and a pretzel)

after that we watched the sea lions and then continued to wander...

and some how ended up at ghirardelli square!

(and i have finally mastered how to spell ghirardelli after all these posts)

banana splits were our favorite for this trip it seems.
delicious!

then we took the trolley over the hills back to our hotel
and we did more shopping at union square

DAY 8

our last day... we wandered around the city (surprise!) and ended up at fisherman's
wharf (surprise again!). i love fisherman's wharf- except for the stinky fish smell. barf!

here we are at pier 39:

we have really mastered the "hold-the-camera-out-and-take-the-picture-ourselves" pic

the magic show and carousel

we found the crepe cafe and HAD to have a banana and nutella crepe. jeremy was
skeptical at first, but became an immediate fan after trying it. mom- remember
the crepes in Paris! we totally had them for dinner one day. so maybe you really would be proud
of our eating habits for this vacation.

then we had to head back to the hotel, gather our stuff, and make our
way to the airport (via the subway) to catch our afternoon flight home.

it was sad to leave such a fun place,
but real life is fun too

SF Part 5

previous installments: here, here, here, and here

DAY 6

we started the day by taking the trolley to fisherman's wharf

we walked (more like meandered) a long long way along the water...

and eventually made it to the exploratorium

we spent 4 or 5 hours here and acted like little kids

then we hopped on a bus and headed to the golden gate bridge

the bridge was way amazing. i could take pictures all day... obviously

the one above on the right is one of my favorites
(so is the one below)

then we took a nature walk to sausalito

it was beautiful!

grabbed sandwiches for dinner at a little italian place, or maybe it was french
i swear they were speaking french, but we tried their "italian homemade bread"...
so who knows?

love, Love, LOVE sausalito!

we wandered around some more and then took a ferry back to SF

the views were great.

then we walked along fisherman's wharf... again. i love it!
but we couldn't head back to the hotel without stopping at GHIRARDELLI's!

this was the night we spent about $20 on ice cream ($18 plus some change to be more specific).
mine was the huge one on the right- the "gold rush"- a peanut buttery chocolate
masterpiece. i couldn't finish it though...

it was a great day... and our legs were pooped!

2 more days to come
