recapturing beauty

i'm going to this tonight:

don't we all need to learn to love ourselves a little more??
in provo? you should come, too!

Post Edit: Stephanie, you were absolutely lovely and all sorts of inspiring tonight... and always. I wish we were bosom buds. Thanks for sharing your incredible journey with us. You are truly a righteous example to follow. May we all cherish and rejoice in our God-given bodies.

i'm a thief

i ventured on over to gap today on my lunch break to do some shopping. i had a coupon for 45% off a regularly priced item if i used my gap card and i also had this beauty -$50 of free clothes. i ended up deciding on the sweater vest and the skinny cords- which i can wear to work!

and my grand total was...

drumroll please!

$0.76

the vest was originally $39.50, on sale at the store for $23, but rang up as $17.99 (woot woot) and the cords were originally $59.50, but i got them almost 1/2 off with the coupon and the $50 certificate covered pretty much everything... it's su-weet!

i feel like a thief!

i am katie, hear me ramble

shall we have a work-out update? it's been a while.

ok, so i was steadily at 119 and then i started going to these early morning workout classes. cardio blast on monday and wednesday, power pump on tuesday and thursday, yoga/pilates fusion on friday, and then i run 3 miles and do some abs on saturday. i started this the beginning of september and i am really enjoying it. the scale is just not on my side though... i have been weighing 121ish -not 119- at night (which can put me in a bad mood when i wake up at 5:40 to work out in the morning). my clothes aren't getting tighter and i feel like i am eating the same, except for the pigging out that happened my birthday weekend. so i don't know what's going on.

where i am now:
  • 121 lbs :(
  • 26.5" waist
  • 35.5" hips

after a couple of days of frustration, this is what i am doing about it...
-i had jeremy hide the scale- he was threatening to do it for a while anyways. weighing myself twice a day was just too much- now i will aim for once a month, if jeremy will allow the scale out every once in a while.
-i am writing down the things i eat; i'm keeping a food diary. i have never done this before, but i am on day 2 and it is already helping me eat a little less candy, cookies, and flat out junk food. i just write down everything i eat right in my planner. i plan to only do this for a week or so to kind of wake me up to how much i eat.
-i hopped on over to this site to get ideas for healthy snacks and to also reassure me that weightlifting is worth it to do... which i am hoping is the reason i'm gaining.

what should i do? any advice? more running, less lifting? add more cardio?

any exercise gurus out there?

From the Missionary:

Sam just got a new companion, Elder Hanson, and he is training him.

Elder Hanson is sweet. We get along really well and have fun doing the Lord's work. Thursday night I played a prank on him. We went to an appointment with our "Zone Leader" or Blake to teach out "investigator" or Anna, his wife. So he comes and picks us up and we head over. And when we get there it is set up perfectly. There is a couch and 2 chairs across from it. So Elder Hanson and I sit in the chairs and our so called zone leader sits on the couch next to Anna. As we are teaching about how Christ loves all of us so much, Blake was like “If Christ was here he would give you a big kiss.” It was so dang funny. It was so hard not to laugh. And as we are teaching her, he is just staring at her smiling. When we start teaching about the foundation of Christ’s church, Blake starts rubbing her shoulders saying, “One is like Christ and the other is like the Apostles.” Then he starts going the same thing to her thigh. It was so dang funny. And of course my companion is looking at me like, "Is he really doing this??" I had to put my scriptures in front of my face so Elder Hanson couldn’t see me laughing. As we keep teaching her, Blake just keeps doing stuff like that and saying dumb stuff. And Elder Hanson just keeps looking at me with the look like, "Is he allowed to do that?" Then like right at the end Blake and Anna are looking at each other and start kissing. And Elder Hanson is freaking out. It was so stinking funny. But we could only hold it in for like 10 seconds then we all started laughing. Elder Hanson was bummed when we told him it was all a joke and that they were married cause we were teaching a pretty good lesson.

Sam is soooo funny! I miss that kid...

the GRE

bleh!

i took a GRE practice test this morning and just picked up my results.

the good: i rocked the verbal section.
the bad: i bombed the math section.
the ugly: hmm....i have to take the GRE.

the percentile for my math results literally says, "You've got a lot of work to do." ha... they are so kind. i haven't done any math for 4 years and i didn't study for this thing, so if i just team up with some jr high math whiz i can relearn this geometry stuff in no time... maybe. i am feeling pretty confident though. I CAN DO THIS! right?? i think this is just what i need to get going on actually studying for this. now i need to sign up for the big day... would the end of October be too soon? i just want to get this over with.

date night

dinner at angels of philly in downtown provo followed by a full moon lift ride at sundance

date night=great night
minus the dj at dinner trying to get us to sing karaoke... that was stressful- according to j.

but the full moon lift ride was a success! the moon was actually out this time (not the case when we went last year), we got to park in the restaurant parking lot rather than out in the boonies, we dressed warmer and brought a blanket, we got there before the line turned into an endless mess, and we were accompanied by great friends and chocolatey hot chocolate. it was a FUN night!

Meet Gus

he is my new buddy

my parents spoil me (and... i LOVE it! haha). they got me the new ipod nano for my birthday when i casually suggested an armband for my ipod or even a shuffle (in any color) to use for running.

well... this ipod nano
ROCKS. MY. SOCKS.
and yes... i named him Gus. it was rather boring for the ipod to come up as "katie's ipod" in itunes... so i just gave it a name and Gus it is.

it is sooooo cool. it clips on my clothes, plays the radio, and matches songs to create genius mixes- this is way more advanced than my other ipod- (the original ipod nano- in white because they didn't have the cool colors yet). yeah... it was old and Gus with his high-tech touch screen and cool gadgets was such a fun surprise.

and it is perfect timing, too. i am running my first official 5k in 2.5 weeks! now i will be able to listen to some sweet tunes as i run, rather than my mind constantly wondering when i will be DONE. wanna run it with me? you know you want to!! don't worry... i run 10 minute miles, so don't be intimidated. the 5k is for my cousin's sweet wife Bunny and they are raising money for Draper City Parks and Trails. the goal is to raise funds to either complete a new section of hard surface trail or create a new rest area or pavilion along one of the main trails to be named in honor of Bunny Bradley. you get a t-shirt when you donate at least $25 when you register (which acts as your registration fee).

so get your running shoes on and sign up HERE!

now if i could only get jeremy to run it with me...

early mornings...

are now my favorite thing.
(who knew that was possible??)

i signed up for some workout classes and they are kicking my butt (that's a good thing) at 6:00 am every morning. i have found that i don't really mind my 5:40 alarm going off. it is easier than i thought it would be. i make sure to gather everything ( clothes, shoes, socks, purse, keys, water bottle, and my wristband-proof of payment) the night before though, so i don't forget the essentials while i am fumbling around half asleep. i love starting my day like this. i love getting my workout over with for the day (they also offer classes at night) and i love seeing the sunrise on the way home.

let's give these away!

some LACE EARRINGS!

yay! i am giving away the lace earrings pictured below.

cute, right?! (i made two pairs exactly the same... so i want to share)

you know how these go. just leave a comment for an entry and let's say
that you get an additional entry for being a follower- so leave another comment
if you are or become a follower. the giveaway ends wednesday, september 15th at midnight. the winner will be announced thursday.

good luck!

and if you don't win, you can make some of your own:

i saw this tutorial and had to try it out- but instead of using pliers to open the ball on the earring, i just slid the lace piece on from the other end, oh and i skipped the bows. it was so cheap, fast, and easy. can it get any better than that? the lace trims cost about $2 and the earrings hooks cost $4 for 4 pairs. i made four pairs in seriously ten minutes.

i love them!

lunch date

we had delicious burgers and fries for lunch...

and then we sauntered back home.

perfect way to start the weekend.

my boss made me cry

yesterday my boss made me cry.

true story.

he had a polaroid camera on his desk and my coworkers and i walked into his office. as soon as i saw it sitting there i started talking a mile a minute, telling him how cool it was, how much the polaroid film was going for on ebay, how jealous i was, how i want one, asking where did he get it, could i buy it from him, and what is he going to do with it, etc. i was asking so many questions i wasn't getting any answers. i finally stopped and just sat there on the other side of his desk waiting to see if he was as excited as i was about this camera. then kevin pushed the camera and all of the film towards me and said something to the effect of, "it's yours." (yeah for real!) i made the most ridiculous excited face- like jaw to the floor accompanied with BIG eyes while taking a huge breath in (can you see it? i can)- as the idea that the camera could be mine settled in... and i started to cry. the little happy tears came and my boss pushed a tissue box across the table as he, amber, and janna laughed at my excitement. turns out the camera has been in his desk for years, passed down from old boss to new boss. i guess they used to take pictures of the employees with it, but seeing that the film all expired in 2004 (but it still works for me) it had not been used for a while. needless to say... i am very excited about this.

here is my new beauty! with all of the film!
eeeeeekkkk! so fun!

and here i am super excited about itjanna and amber wanted to capture the moment...
i'm glad you can't see the tears.

what a funny day! i am the luckiest girl.
