juanita!

my mom is a funny girl.

she has this weird affinity for calling us different names. and not each others' names, but completely random names. for example, the boys in the family (my dad included) are usually fred, george, or george henry, etc. i am juanita.

i was called juanita so often when i was little that i actually thought it was a term of endearment. you know, like sweetie or honey. i didn't know that juanita was a name until i was almost 12 years old when i met a juanita.

it was all very confusing to say the least. i remember being in the backseat of the van wondering who would name their kid juanita. i finally asked my mom if that lady's name was really juanita. she said yes and told me it was a normal name.

my world was turned upside down.

saturday night

we had the perfect summer date.

what made it so great?

exploring bridal veil falls, zooming through the canyon with the windows
down, driving past a goat in someone's yard, freaking out because a bird almost flew
into the car, and eating shave ice from surf n slurp with cream on top.
(i got pina colada and orange, jeremy got pink guava.)

summer nights are the best.

rash decisions

i had a lot of success at the farmer's market today.

i went with the intention of buying nothing, but after sampling some local raw honey from the sweetest old man i quickly dropped $6 on a pound of it - rash decision #1. it was tasty and i needed honey, so i couldn't be happier about it. then i decided to rock the feather trend when i walked past a tattooed lady that was doing it for $7 - rash decision #2. and i think it's FABULOUS! and so will my family i'm sure, since the purple is now out.

conclusion:
the farmer's market is my favorite and
sometimes rash decisions are the best kind
.

i wonder when jeremy will notice...

these summer nights

aren't they beautiful?
i just can't get enough.

every night the summer air seems to be calling out to me for milk shakes or shave ice. that's tough when i am trying to save desserts only for the weekends (which went awesome last week, but not so awesome on tuesday. the weekend is just about here though, so bring on the tastiest desserts you got!).

instead of getting treats last night, jeremy and i played tennis for over two hours. a big chunk of that time was spent under the beautiful pink and blue sunset. it was a gorgeous sight. possibly more gorgeous because i was winning? i think so. i loved every second of it. i really forgot how much i love tennis. nothing like working up a big sweat with my lover. if i played tennis every night for the rest of the summer, i would be a happy camper. well, maybe less camper-ish and just better at tennis, but it would be a summer full of fun for sure.

microwave it

years ago (like 12 or more)...
me, sam, and riley were eating starbursts.

my favorite way to eat them was to hold two different flavors tight in my hand until they were soft enough to mold. unwrap them both, press them together, and twist. twist, twist, twist and then roll. roll until i had a swirly ball. like this...

a lemon strawberry one in this case

well, on this particular day years ago, i told the boys that if you put a starburst ball in the microwave for 10 minutes that it would turn into a bouncy ball. they of course believed me, because i am not a liar. they were on their way to test out this claim when mom walked into the kitchen and asked them what they were doing. they told her about the cool trick i just shared with them, which was followed by stifled laughs and a "kaaaatie" from my mom in that tone, you know the one.

needless to say, we didn't get to see if it worked, but whenever i eat starburts, i get the hankering for a starburst ball.

a wild streak?

alright guys...

here is my blonde streak these days:
(well, today actually. i took these pictures at lunch)

remember when i bleached it way back in october? a peekaboo streak is the way to go, my friends. it has grown out a ton, but you can't even tell. LOVE it!

so the very serious question i have for you today is...

...
should i make the blonde streak PURPLE?

oh yes, i said purple!

why purple? well, why not! apparently it's what's hot in tampa, florida, so why not make it hot in provo? could it be too punk? maybe... but look at this sweet girl. she still looks nice and so does this girl. i would do a semi-permanent dye that would eventually wash out, so we could call it the summer of purple and make it a wild one.

well, this is the official place to vote so... YAY or NAY people??!

don't lie to me.

p.s. i may or may not dye it anyway no matter the outcome of this poll.

700th post

this was my saturday afternoon project:

the braided bead necklace
here is the tutorial, so you can make one too.

it took a couple of hours, but it is totally worth it!
the hardest past was picking the color of my beads...
i seriously was in the aisle for at least 20 minutes.

i love how it turned out.

another race

i just signed us up for the Run Through The Lavender 5K Race.

us meaning me and jeremy.

this is almost unreal because this cute boy refuses to run unless a ball
is involved. i think he was ultimately inspired by the 1/2 marathoning he witnessed
on saturday. he even told me, "you ran 13 miles... so i can run 3." yes, you
can jeremy and it will be fun!

picture from here

it should be a beautiful race. i don't think they will be
handing out medals at the finish line, but a t-shirt will do. i can't wait!
i am so happy jeremy is running the race with me.

run with us. you can register here!
you even have 3 weeks to train. woot woot!

coral and green

sometimes at the end of the day,
i look into the mirror and think to myself,
"you wore that today?"
am i the only one?

it's a good day, when i still
like my outfit after i get home from work.
ok - everyday is a good day, but it's just extra
fun when i love my clothes

luckily...

today was one of those good days.
i just love what i wore. the coral
and green combo is one of my favorites,
because it's nice and bright. the ensemble
was also perfect for this sunny summer
weather we are having.
yum.

now like a cool fashion blogger...
shirt: target, skirt: gap outlet,
moccasins: land's end

the longest race of my life

and that isn't an exaggeration

here are some pictures of today's big event:

i am obviously obsessed with my medal. i LOVE it!

i ran 13.1 miles! can you believe it? i am still kind of shocked, and super sore.

the race went really well. i ran it in 2 hours, 12 minutes, and 35 seconds. woohoo! not bad for a first timer. the first 10 miles were great. they seemed easy and most were in the gorgeous canyon, but after i passed the 10 mile marker, i was ready for it to be over. those last 3 miles seemed like 6! luckily, i had my buds (amber and janna) close by to keep me trudging along, and what do you know?... i finished! (and ran the whole way!!) the cute boy jeremy was also there to cheer me on when i had that last mile left. it was tough, but i am so happy that i did it. it was so fun! i used to think 3 miles was a good, hard run. i love that training for this race got me over that 3 mile hump and now i can run much farther. it is just crazy! - and totally awesome.

maybe i am a runner after all...

do you pin?

today i joined the newest internet phenomenon:

Pinterest

have you heard of it? it's great.

you know when you find something online and you don't want to forget about it (recipes, cool shoes, awesome crafts, etc). what do you do to "save" it? i usually end up emailing myself a link and then saving it in some folder in my inbox (or cleverly making a "dying to make" section on my blog sidebar for all the crafts i find... haha!). well, with Pinterest i can save all of things i find without having to email myself or save it to my computer or blog sidebar. it's like an online filing cabinet. genius, i tell you, genius!

so i have joined the craze in an effort to organize the things i find online that i just have to keep around. like hair ideas for one... i am hair-impaired! it's bad. i can't even french braid. so if i save hair ideas to my "board" maybe i will actually be brave, try something new, and learn a thing or two about doing my hair.

anyways... my boards are here if you want to take a look. i'm just getting started so they are a little bare. if you want to join, let me know and i can invite you. i just need your e-mail address. lovely erica invited me this morning.

am i ready for this?

the half-marathon is fast approaching.

we are talking 5 days! AAAHHHHHHH!
(and you know i didn't fit my long run in on saturday while i was in vegas and my clothes were in salt lake)

but i'm sure it will be great. i have three short runs this week mixed in with more rest until the big day. i am excited! well, excited and nervous. i'm excited for the cool shirt they give me and the fancy medal i get when i finish, i'm excited for all the food i can eat after running that far, and i'm excited to accomplish such a distance with my own little leggies. i'm nervous because i have to get up really early (ridiculously early) and run farther than i have ever run in my life. whew! i think i can do it!

i think i will be spending the week trying to remain calm as the race day arrives.

any tips for the week of the race from you running pros?

picnicking

is my favorite.

recent flight fiascos

where have i been?

i skipped work (don't worry my boss approved my out of office auto-reply email) and i went to boston to interview for my field placement in the fall. the interviews went great and i got offered two internships on the spot. so that was fun, but the actual traveling to and fro was a MESS... and it just got worse and worse! (and then it got better)

i have been on an airplane every day for the last four days. on wednesday, a delayed flight made me miss my layover in denver, so i was sent to baltimore instead. after three hours of sleep in a hotel i had to pay for, i had an early morning flight into boston on thursday and arrived 20 minutes late to my first interview. friday, i was taken off of my flight minutes before it took off because of some computer error saying i wasn't cleared to fly (and i still don't understand what that was all about... they just kept apologizing). the problem was solved literally seconds after the "door-that-can't-be-opened-after-it's-shut" was closed. with silent tears streaming down my face, i had to watch the last flight to salt lake take off with my bag on it without me. after i collected myself and was ready to face another human being, i asked if they could get me to vegas. they were thrilled with that idea. i think they were just happy i wasn't screaming at them, because they (told me so and) gave me money for dinner in the airport, a $200 voucher for a future flight, a pre-boarding pass so i could board the plane first, they sent me to vegas for the night, and let me pick a later flight from vegas to salt lake so i could spend more time with my family (which was just perfect!). the people were great and super nice. at this point i was sure i was home free, but of course today's flight home, my last flight of the experience, was delayed an hour and half. jeremy wasn't too happy about that... the cute boy just wanted me to finally come home.

it has sure been a stressful four days - the trip was stressful before the flight fiascos began.
i am so glad i'm home... and i really don't want to step into an airport for a while.

WISHLIST wednesday: No. 2

i love these sweet key chains and they are totally customizable!

i have wanted a custom stamped key chain for quite a while. i want one that has the latitude and longitude coordinates stamped on it of where jeremy and i got married (40.770455,-111.891906) or where we first kissed (40.250953, -111.657971). wouldn't that be so fun? it would just look like a bunch of numbers, but it would mean so much more. i found this great site that finds coordinates... just enter an address and shaBAM! it spits out your coordinates.

check out the key chains here!
