let me vent...

Until today, I was planning on majoring in Social Work and then continuing on to get my Master's Social Work (MSW). Today in my Intro to Social Work class we were informed that the Bachelor's in Social Work program doesn't exist anymore at BYU. They are not allowing anybody else to do that major. How can they freakin' do that! Seriously, who are they trying to kid. I am so frustrated right now. Now I have to go back and re-plan my life. What the heck! I could change my major to sociology, psychology, marriage family and human development, or anthropology, and least still continue on to get my Masters in Social Work. In alot of Masters programs they have advanced standing where if you get your Bachelor's in Social Work it only takes one year to get your MSW instead of two. So now I don't have that option. My roommate Sarah suggested that I be a teacher. That would be kinda fun... AAHHH! So many options. I thought I had this all figured out. :(

pumpkins...are they fruits?

So its almost Halloween. Woohoo! Which means that pumpkins are everywhere right now. Me and Kristen carved the beauty up above. Its "Y Mountain" with a tree. Cool, huh?! We got school spirit...yes we do! I even made pumpkin cookies yesterday. The recipe was way easy, but it made so many. I have been offering cookies to everyone that walks through our apartment door.... and still have a whole bunch. Come over if you want some...

Fall Casualties

The leaves have fallen. But there is no need to fear, we will beable to witness the color changing phenomenon of nature again in a little less than a year. Until then, my commentary about the leaves outside my window will be non-existent.... unless of course my fascination renews in the spring time.

We R Eco-Friendly

We have been lovin nature in our apartment alot lately... part of this is from my obvious obsession with the fall leaves. We have included fall leaves in our apartment decor after I collected a whole bunch of the prettiest ones. We also have a wall covered in the recent pictures we have taken of mother earth. The other part of our concern and love for nature is from Kristen's obsession with recycling. She has labeled a garbage can as "Recycables Only" and makes sure that everyone in the apartment participtes in this righteous cause. Did you know that it takes a plastic cotainer 50,000 years to start decomposing? true story. We have decided to take a stand for recycling and try to make a little less trash for this beautiful earth to deal with. Stand with us...recycle.

Gettin Creative

The first craft of the day dealt with mod podge. My mom and I bought simple wood frames and cute scrapbook paper at Michael's on the way home from the airport on Friday. I traced and cut out the shape of the frame on the paper, covered the frame in mod podge glue, put the paper on, and then put more glue on top. It was a super easy project that my mom learned about at our Ward's Super Saturday. I want to put a cool quote in the dragonfly one and my mom wants to put a family picture in the red and cream one. Our next art project was Riley's idea...

Bored on a Saturday Night... what do we do?? We decide to make t-shirts. We ran to Walmart to get the supplies and rushed home to let our creative minds run wild. Riley is wearing the one he painted and I am wearing the one I painted. Which one do you like? Sam helped control the creativity with his excellent fashion advice. I think with the three of us, we could have a pretty successful clothing business. Anybody have suggestions for a clothing company name? We used acrylic paint on the shirts... we weren't really sure if it would work, but the Walmart Associate in the craft department supposedly doesn't work in the craft department and didn't have any idea what paint to use on t-shirts. So helpful. We will see how successful we were after we wash them for the first time. But the creativity didn't end there...

After watching a movie, Sam ditched us for his friends, so me and Rye went to get ice cream. We love ice cream. We live ice cream. I got the vanilla cone and Riley got the chocolate shake. On the way there Riley was experimenting with the camera. He had it on the no flash setting so the slower shutter speed made the lights look pretty cool. Both of his pictures remind me of...worms. Flourescent worms. In a race. go! go! go!

Still Changing

Here are the leaves outside my window...again. They have turned from a yellow-green color to a red color. I guess that is the natural thing for leaves to do, but it is still so fascinating and beautiful. Love it.

It's that time of the Month...

Not that time of the month... (haha) We have cleaning checks every month. We have to scrub every inch of the apartment before the inspectors come and try to tear apart our cleaning skills and tell us that we are living like slobs. Procrastinating, we look towards that day with dread, but then the night before our cleaning checks inevitably arrives....

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

(actually we end up having a lot fun...woohoo!)

Here is Serena with her vinegar... the living room baseboards can be a beast!

Kristen getting ready to scrub down the kitchen counters...yuck!

Deanna getting down and dirty with the bathroom floors... she likes it.

Sarah...making our bathrooms sparkle *

Jenn is ready to tackle the oven; Kristen is...crazy!

Check out the sweatband. Cleaning is serious business. I get to clean out the fridge... I just wonder what creatures are lurking in the back.

Spice Girls.... yeah!

"YOOOO...I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want..."

Serena's slamming music and our crazy loud singing keeps this party rocking all night long!

just appreciating.

Fall. I enjoy it. I get to start wearing warm sweatshirts and drinking hot chocolate on the cold nights. This year I have really liked the leaves. Being from the desert, I have missed out on this part of fall for the last couple of years. The palm tree leaves just don't change with the weather, well the weather doesn't really change that much. But when I sit at my desk in my apartment, I look out the window and see these beautiful leaves changing colors. They look a little different every day and I knew I had to capture them with my camera before they fell.

what a weekend...

I flew home this weekend and it was so nice to see my family. The weekend was filled with adventure. First of all I love to fly in airplanes. I get this ridiculous grin on my face when the plane is taking off. I just love it. Especially at night with all of the lights. I got in late Thursday night, hung out with Riley Friday night and then my brothers and I drove to San Diego for my cousin's lovely wedding on Saturday (my parents left on Friday). On the way there, we maxed out the truck and hit 110 mph. Woohoo! We are very safe drivers. Think about it... three teenagers and an open road... good one mom and dad. Needless to say, we got there in record time. The wedding was wonderful and then we all turned around to head back the same day. We knew the drive back would be a bit longer since the parentals would be with us. There was the girl car (me and my mom) and then the boy car (my dad and brothers). Sam drove the boy car and at about midnight he got pulled over going 91 mph, 21 mph over the speed limit! My mom and I saw the action and immediately said a quick, simple prayer that the policeman would have compassion and not give Sam a ticket. Well it turns out that the policeman and his partner were both Mormon and Sam subtly mentioned that we were trying to get home so we could go to church tomorrow. He amazingly enough did not get a ticket...MIRACLE and direct answer to our prayer! So we continued on home even slower than before. We got there around 1ish and got up early this morning for church which started at nine. Different than the usual 1 o'clock church I have learned to enjoy at school. Well, today was the Primary Program. Do I need to say more? It was so funny! Little kids are my favorite. They scream into the microphone, laugh, cry, sway to the music, refuse to stand, and they wave to their proud parents. I think the only thing my mom said to me throughout sacrament meeting was, "Katie, we are a lot quieter in church when you are not here." ouch.... I'm glad you enjoy having me around, mom. Feeling the love. Me, Sam, and Rye....we just had to catch up on things. Now I am back at school, after a nice plane ride back. I love how airports are the best places to people watch... so entertaining. Try it out some time.. just for fun.
