sunday exploring

my cousins are in town! hooray for family!

they came to spanish church with us and then we went exploring. we started at the minuteman visitor's center and learned all about the events in april 1775 that started the revolutionary war.  then we went to the north bridge, where we won our first battle. the last time we were here was a mighty cold day in november. the weather was gorgeous this time, so we explored a little bit more.

then we wandered over to the sleep hollow cemetery.
we found author's ridge and checked out the graves of Henry D. Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Louise May Alcott, and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

we found am off-duty tour guide tending to the graves that was more than excited to tell us all about the Hawthorne family.  (the green plaque in the rock below says Ralph Waldo Emerson.)

i love ancient grave sites - so much history and character with a sense of eeriness.  what's not to love?

our next stop was walden pond in the golden sun.

my heavens this place is beautiful.

thanks for letting us tag along stephensons.  you guys were wonderful exploring companions.
