To anyone with an eating disorder:
I am fighting for you.
I wonder when you will realize your worth.
I hear your eating disorder wailing.
I see you taking a step towards recovery.
I want to help you get there.
I am fighting for you!
I pretend I can change the world.
I feel like I have to try.
I touch the walls to break them down.
I worry I'm not doing enough.
I cry because I know you are suffering.
I am fighting for YOU!
I understand recovery is hard.
I know that it is worth it.
I dream for your inner peace.
I try to help you find it.
I hope for healing. I pray for healing.
I am FIGHTING FOR YOU!
[We wrote "I am" poems in a group I ran recently.]

I am
Round 2
I am learning what works.
I wonder if I will ever get there.
I hear whispers of uncertainty.
I see dreams coming true.
I want to fight for change.
I am learning what works.
I pretend to have it figured out.
I feel I'm getting closer.
I touch the walls to break them down.
I worry I'm not doing enough.
I cry for those that suffer.
I am learning what works.
I understand nothing is perfect.
I say perfection is not beauty.
I dream of a peaceful world.
I try to love everyone.
I hope for healing. I pray for healing.
I am learning what works.
We wrote these poems in my group yesterday. I wrote mine from my perspective as a clinician with my patients in mind and my struggle to help them break free from their Eating Disorders.

I am
I am wild at heart.
I wonder what my next adventure will be.
I hear endless laughter.
I see a million shooting stars.
I want to explore the whole world.
I am wild at heart.
I pretend to be a kid.
I feel like I will always be young.
I touch and reach for my dreams.
I worry for those I love.
I cry for those that suffer.
I am wild at heart.
I understand I can't fix the world.
I say why not try anyway.
I dream I make a difference.
I try to be my best self.
I hope for peace, I pray for peace.
I am wild at heart.
(this poem is from a group i ran at work where i had the patients write an "i am poem" and then share and discuss them. they wanted me to do it, too. it would be cool to write this poem periodically to see what changes over time.)

dreams come true
she was young
and had big life plans.
he had just returned
from foreign lands.
they found eachother
in class one day,
and walked home together
going the same way.
she talked a lot,
sharing her hopes and dreams.
he listened,
and said all the right things.
inseperable,
they soon became.
because of peach rings
and a basketball game.
eventually,
these two best friends,
went to the temple
to marry without end.
their adventure as one
began that day,
as they worked, and studied,
and always played.
a move to Boston
became part of the ride
to follow their dreams
on the country's other side.
he's in school
learning all about teeth,
to become a doctor
is quite a feat.
she graduated
with her master's degree,
loves what she does,
and is happy as can be.
she works, he studies,
and of course they play,
loving every bit of the adventure
that comes their way.
(a little poem i wrote on my recent cross country flight)
