sailboats and mansions

today we ventured south to the land of sailboats and mansions...
and that would be newport, rhode island.

we also took a very expensive wrong turn on the way. we had to pay $4 to cross a bridge and then pay another $4 to turn around and cross it again. good thing we like rhode island or else i might be holding a major grudge... instead i am just considering it my personal donation to the pretty state.

anyways... once we finally arrived to our destination, we:

ate lunch in the park on the wharf, took a look at fort adams, watched the sailboats glide around, witnessed the beauty of ocean drive, climbed on some ocean rocks, found the mansions and other huge mansions, dreamed of having their pretty views, padded along a mile of the cliff walk, dropped by the tennis hall of fame, ate some bbq beef brisket, watched the sailors again (they are so cool), purchased a magnet and an overpriced cookie, scored a free waffle cone (oh yeah!), and headed home beneath the beautiful full moon.

newport... i didn't get nearly enough of you in just one day.
i will return! and next time, i think i will sail.

dash dot dash

jeremy and i each got our semester charlie cards today
and i thought using morse code would be fun to tell them apart.
the top one has a k on it, the bottom one has a j on it.

morse code is the coolest. i totally want to learn the whole alphabet.
i already have my name memorized. see?

_ . _ . _ _ . . .

katie

what could i do with morse code? besides get some awesome jewelry.
anyone want to start communicating with dots and dashes?

the shire

we spent the weekend at the blessed lakehouse in new hampshire

with the other first-year dental students to celebrate the new school year.

we did the usual fun things (kayaking, tubing, water skiing, etc) and this time
we also conquered the rope swing! thanks to dane and aimee for taking the sweet action shots.

it was a great sunny day for the lake!

and now presenting...

the newest second-years! YAY!
we made it through the first year!

and their lovely supporting wives. they couldn't do it without us!

we are almost in the same order as the boys... just flip-flop the girls in black to see who's married to who.

i am so glad we have such good buds to help us get through dental school.
it makes it way more fun than doing this on our own. and we are having a BLAST!

we love free

today we woke up early (i'm talking WAY early) and hurried to the city to go on a free friday adventure.
they were giving out FREE tickets to visit some of the islands in the boston harbor.
we were so early, we were almost the first in line, which was totally awesome. i loved
watching the sun rise on the water.

we sent the boys to buy some donuts since we had been there since the early hours.
(it totally paid off though- we got the earliest ride out there! and the line went on forever behind us.)

our pretty boat ride led us to the beautiful georges island.
we wandered around the place, took in the views, and learned all about fort warren.

it chalked up to be a sweet morning! and it was FREE. we loved it!

teal floral

every summer i get most excited to buy a planner for the year in the fall.
i get so excited it borders weird. anytime we have walked into a target this summer i would ask jeremy if we could look at the planners. i just had to check out the options. to me a planner is more than just... a planner, i guess. it's like my journal. i like to write down the things that i do and keep a little record. (i also track my workouts to stay motivated.) a few weeks ago i stumbled upon a planner that was both nice to look at and very functional. it has extra pages so i can put all my lists right into my planner. i love it. it also didn't clash with the notebooks i bought for my classes this year or my backpack, so that was a plus.

well, here it is... this year's planner:

isn't it gorgeous? can't wait to fill it up!

nahant beach

after a morning of sleeping in and playing tennis (it's a hard life, i know), we decided to check out nahant beach this afternoon. i've heard really good things about it, so we had to see for ourselves. it's only 20 minutes away and $3 to park all day right on the beach. you can't beat that... seriously! so we took off for the place.

and... nahant beach was great. i can't get over how soft the sand is. the water is also considerably warmer than the pacific ocean and shallow for a long ways out there. we loved it. they even had "shave ice," although it wasn't as amazing as other places we have tried, it was still good. we will definitely be visiting nahant beach before our days of summer freedom come to an end. it was a fun day!

oh! crazy seagull story: so jeremy and i were just frolicking in the ocean and looking back every so often to make sure no one was swiping our loot. suddenly, we eyed two seagulls walking all over our stuff. we saw one take a bite of something, so we started running (well, i ran as jeremy gingerly followed at a walking pace). nothing was really awry at the scene, just some sandy seagull prints across the towels, but one of the perpetrators did manage to remove my bookmark from my book and plop it in the sand. funny little guy. i suppose he doesn't approve of reading for leisure.

my version

i just finished our first scrapbook. it documents our first three years of marriage. it was way easy and it's fun to have a book with all of our adventures. want to take a look?

here's my version of scrapbooking:

make a photobook, handwrite some commentary, and BOOM! done.
